How to Jump Higher-Exercises to Increase Vertical Leap

Learning  how to jump higher involves doing exercises to increase vertical leap.  But the legs are not the only things that will help you jump higher.  To increase vertical jump you need to use every muscle possible to get the gains.

The way it goes right now you probably go play your sport everyday and each day you get a little better at some aspect but you aren’t really seeing any improvement in your jumping.  When you bend at your knees to jump you are involving more muscles than you might think.  So in order to jump higher you need to train all the muscles involved in jumping individually.  You might have really strong calves but they won’t do you much good if your quads are week.  You are only as strong as your weakest muscle.

So how do you jump higher?  By training individual muscles so as to not have a muscle that could be impeding your performance.

What muscles are involved in jumping?

  • Quads
  • Calves
  • Hamstrings
  • Lower Back
  • Shoulders
  • Stomach

Just having strong legs will not cut it.  You need to train the other muscles involved.  All you movement have to go through your core which is your back and abs.  Having a weak back will prevent jump height.  You might be wonders where shoulders come into play.  When you swing your arms forward the muscle that is doing all of the work is the front deltoid.  Doing dumbbell raises with weights in front of you will strengthen your front deltoids and produce a more powerful arm swing.

Don’t think that it takes years to jump high because it doesn’t you just have to know what you’re doing.
