A plyometric workout routine consists of strength training and plyometric exericses that are designed to help you learn how to jump higher. Vertical jump training is a bit tricky because you aren’t training the same way that a bodybuilder would train their muscles. When trying to learn to jump higher you have to realize that there are 2 factors (speed and strength) you have to focus on instead of just 1 (strength) that a bodybuilder or average person is focused on.

There have been tons of studies done to figure out the proper number of sets, reps, wait time between them and many other factors that go into building big, good looking muscles. There have not been many studies done for learning to jump higher. When I was in college, I couldn’t find a professor that would agree to research vertical jump training workouts (plyometric workouts) with me but I could easily find many that were interested on strength gains. So you can see that it’s not as popular and therefore not researched as much. I went on to graduate with a degree in Exercise Science but never got work along side a professor to test my vertical jump training workout routines on people to see what worked the best. So, I had to test my plyometric workout routines on myself and friends and the results surprised me.

I had learned that there were a few factors that were important but none were more important than finding out the bottleneck that was preventing each individual to reach their personal highest vertical jump that they could get. This means that one person might really need to work on the strength of their quads while another person has quads that are strong enough to have a 50 inch vertical jump but the speed at which their muscles fire was preventing them from even getting to 30 inches. To see a video on vertical jump training that I think everyone should see – Click Here

Knowing the best jumping exercises is 1 of the most important factors in any vertical jump training program. Many people train to jump higher for years without seeing any real results and then they blame genetics for their failed attempts. The truth is that plyometric jump training is a science and it has grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years.

Do you remember so many athletes being able to jump so high 20, 15 or even 10 years ago? There are more people that can jump high enough to dunk a basketball on a 10 foot rim now then there ever have been. Is it because people are just taller now? No! It is because people are learning how to jump higher by following correct principles.

Following a proven vertical training program is the only way to get guaranteed results.

The Jump Manual is guaranteed to give you results or Jacob Hiller will give you double your money back. You have heard me talk about the jump manual workouts on this site before. For those of you that are new to the site, I have personally used the Jump Manual and have had success with it. I purchased it back in January of 2009 and I got an amazing 2 inches added to my vertical leap in the first 2 weeks! That is a success in my book. So no matter if you play basketball, volleyball, football, dance or any other sport this will help you jump higher and increase your speed. Most people are interested in it to learn how to jump higher in basketball but the plyometrics workouts are very good for volleyball players as well. Workouts to jump higher can vary greatly but they all have one thing in common, they work on increasing vertical jump through plyometric exercises.

Jumping Workouts

Lets look at a plyometric workouts that will give you a few extra inches on your vertical leap. The first thing that I want to explain about vertical jumping workouts is that you need to allow your body time to rest between sets. You should stick to low reps and high intensity, but you need to rest a little longer than you would if you were just lifting weights to build muscle. We are not trying to get big bulky legs, we are developing muscles that perform well. Plyometrics is a combination of speed and strength so you need to work each of them equally. You should have sufficient leg strength before you even begin workouts to increase vertical. I would recommend that you be able to squat 1.5 times your weight 5 times in 5 seconds before you start plyometrics training.

Plyos

Plyometrics are often referred to as plyos. Plyometric equipment may be needed for some jumping exercises such as plyometric boxes. Don’t be fooled into buying plyometric shoes or other gadgets that can mess up your normal gait. Remember that you can do these workouts to increase vertical jump without using any special equipment but sometimes having equipment available will make plyometric training a little easier. Check out the Jump Manual by clicking here.

Training with plyometric exercises is a great way to learn how to jump higher in basketball, volleyball or any other sport that requires any fast movements. There are many programs on the interent that make pretty bold promises in how many inches they can add on you vertical jump. I would recommend reading a review of vertical jump programs to see which ones stack up and which ones don’t. Learning how to jump higher in volleyball is slightly different than learning some of the form and techniques to jump higher for basketball.

Plyometric Drills

Let’s take some common plyometric workouts that consists mostly of jumping exercises to see how we could throw them into the usual basketball or volleyball exercises. Plyometrics are not like the normal way of training where you want to do your second set while you are still tired from the first one. You want to allow yourself more time to recover before doing your next set of plyos. The jump manual exercises are designed in a way that you have enough rest but not too much.

Plyometric Training

The concept of a plyometrics workout is that when you stretch a muscle before contracting it, the muscle will react with more power. Power is a combination of speed and strength. The speed of the muscles is faster when it is stretched right before contraction. It’s much like a rubber band in many ways. So plyometric training is designed to make all of the muscles react at the exact same time when you bend your knees at the start of a jump. So to increase vertical jump you need to train the muscles to react better right before take-off. This is where the jump manual workouts come into play.

So you can see that plyometric training for volleyball to learn how to spike would be almost the same as jumping exercises for basketball to learn how to dunk. The science is the same with vertical leap no matter how you look at it.

Jump Rope Exercises

Would jump rope exercises be beneficial? I would not recommend doing a jump rope exercise routine. You want to drills that will teach you how to jump higher not for a longer period of time. Doing the jump rope workout will only train your muscles to become endurance muscles but they won’t give you much more height on your vertical leap. So if you want to learn how to dunk or how to spike the answer is in learning how to increase vertical jump with vertical training. Increasing vertical doesn’t take as long as you may think. To increase jumping you simply need to follow a well designed program such as the jump manual and you will start seeing results in the first week of training. So if you want your vertical jump higher then swing by and check out the program by clicking here.
